MAGOFFIN
HOME STATE HISTORICAL PARK.
The Magoffin Home State Historical Park, in El Paso, preserves the
Territorial-style adobeq house built by Joseph Magoffin in 1875.
The house originally had six rooms around a large central hall,
but an addition was built and the adobe exterior covered with lime
plaster sometime before 1887. Three more rooms, probably dating
to the 1870s, were attached to the main house later. Members of
the Magoffin family occupied the home until 1986; in 1976, however,
the state of Texas and the city of El Paso jointly purchased the
property. The home contains many of the family's furnishings. The
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department operates the park.
