Courtyard/ Patio
The actual size of the home is most evident from this area and it is much larger than when viewed from the street.  Apparent is the added east wing with four bedrooms, and the south wing which is the oldest part of the home. While the precise construction date is unknown, the south wing was probably completed about 1870. The original Magoffin home at Magoffinsville was completely destroyed by a flood of the Rio Grande in 1867. The south wing is the place where the family began to rebuild after the flood.

The center statue of the angel Gabriel was purchased for Josephine in Paris during the 1920's. The statue originally included a large set of wings, but regardless of the position in the courtyard, the El Paso winds would catch the wings and statue would tumble. The wings eventually broke off and are in storage in the house collections.

The cornerstone on the west side of the courtyard is from the 1899 El Paso City Hall that was built during Joseph's tenure as mayor. When that building was razed to make way for a larger building, the stone was recovered and presented to the Magoffin family.
