Corner Bedroom (Josephine's Bedroom)
In 1898 the Spanish American War was in progress, and William Glasgow was serving in the Philippines and then Cuba.  Meanwhile, Josephine had returned to her parents home and took up residence in the corner bedroom with her first child, Joseph Magoffin Glasgow. The imposing furniture in this room was purchased at the World's Fair and Exposition in New Orleans 1884 as a birthday gift for Josephine.

The five piece set includes the wardrobe, dresser, wash stand, a marble top table, and a massive half-canopy bed that is eleven feet tall. Restoration of the room was based on photos taken at the turn of the century and includes numerous pieces in common use at the time.  Brass or cast iron cradles and beds were widely used and considered much more hygienic than similar wood furnishings.  Additionally, pigskin-covered tables, commonly produced in Mexico and reflecting the proximity of the border, support the child's tin tub.
