Great Hall The
entry way or "great hall," like many of the rooms in the house
has been used for a variety of purposes. Today it serves both as the main
entry and reception area as well as a dividing line between those rooms,
which have been restored to the turn-of-the-century motif, which shows the
Magoffin era, and those areas, which remain, with 1930's decor, which
shows the influence of the Glasgows. After
the death of her father in the 20s, Josephine inherited the home and upon
the retirement of her husband General William Glasgow, the home became
their permanent residence. The Glasgows used the Great Hall as their
living room, and Josephine remodeled the room in a Santa Fe style that was
popular during that time. The Santa Fe style included the removal of the
wallpaper, replacing it with a plaster finish, removal of the canvas
ceiling to expose the beamed ceiling and indirect lighting with the
installation of hooded corner fixtures. She also added niches in the wall,
traditionally the places for religious icons. Some of the brick facing and the plaster has been removed from portions of the fireplace in order to document its construction. This has revealed that Josephine added the entire feature. |
