Family Parlor The
family parlor or back parlor was an informal gathering place during the
time, similar to today's family room or den. Restored to 1898,
furnishings in this room include the unassuming desk of Joseph Magoffin,
a Hunzinger rocking chair of Charles (Uncle Charlie) Richardson that
dates to the 1860s, and numerous family portraits. Casual use of Navajo
rugs in the room was a growing trend at the turn of the century.
As memories of the Indian Wars receded, the American Indian was
increasingly romanticized. Indian
rugs, blankets, pottery and other artifacts became decorative objects.
