Middle Bedroom (Master Bedroom 1898) Four bedrooms were added to the home between 1880 and 1885, and when entering this bedroom you are entering that addition. At the turn of the 20th century, this served as the bedroom for Joseph and Octavia. It
is well known that temperatures in the El Paso area can be quite hot, and
this room exemplifies the architectural adaptation to the climate. The
home is constructed of thick adobe walls that tend to moderate the
interior temperatures. In addition, this bedroom includes large windows
and numerous interior and exterior doors that allow for adequate and
adjustable cross ventilation, which assists in keeping the entire home
comfortable throughout the year. The bed and matching dresser in this room are excellent examples of the Eastlake style. Fine incised lines, uncomplicated floral designs and the overall simplicity made the style popular across the United States during the 1880s and 90s.
