The
Magoffin Home State Historic Site, in El Paso, preserves the
territorial style adobe house built by Joseph Magoffin in
1875. The house originally had six rooms around a large
central hall, additions were built and the adobe exterior
covered with lime plaster sometime before 1887.
Three
more rooms, probably dating to the 1870s, are now part of the
south wing. Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department and the city of El Paso jointly
purchased the property in 1976 and descendants of the Magoffin
family continued to reside in the home until 1986.
